Hot Kitchen Trends This Year

The kitchen is considered the heart of every home. With everyone forced to stay indoors to slow down the spread of COVID-19, kitchens are seeing more traffic than any place in the house.  In addition to preparing meals, most people prefer to eat, talk, and even work at the kitchen table, a reason you might want to consider a kitchen renovation. Depending on the condition of your kitchen, a few simple upgrades should give it a fresh new look and improved functionality.

All controversial projects determined in 12 weeks, Minister demands

The Independent Planning Commission will have 12 weeks to decide whether to approve controversial developments and mining projects, as part of the government's push to ensure timely decision-making.

The three-month timeframe will now apply to all projects for which the commission must hold public hearings, not just the controversial Narrabri Gas Project which was capped at 12 weeks earlier this year.

Inland Rail: Narrabri to host biggest logistics hub in the North West says GM

Inland Rail: Narrabri to host biggest logistics hub in the North West says GM

The huge industrial estate set to become Narrabri's "inland port" will be even bigger than initially predicted as council seeks to take advantage of the Inland Rail project.

Narrabri Shire Council General Manager Stewart Todd revealed the council are considering buying extra land for the project.

Doing so would make the business park "the premier industrial and logistics hub development in North West NSW," he said in an announcement online.

The $9.3 billion Inland Rail project, which will link Brisbane and Melbourne by train, is set to start work in Narrabri later this year.

Showground upgrades welcomed for Narrabri, Boggabri

Showground upgrades welcomed for Narrabri, Boggabri

He founded an event many mark in their calendars once a year, and despite having to cancel this year's Drover's Campfire, Geoff Eather says upgrades to the Boggabri showgrounds will be "perfect".

These grounds, as well as their Narrabri counterpart, are set to receive a face-lift thanks to funding announced by the NSW Government.

"The upgrades they are working on will make a big difference," Mr Eather said.

"They [facilities] were getting rather old, and well and truly due for an upgrade, so it's great news.

"Hopefully we will have a lot better facilities once we return next year, bigger and better."

Boggabri Showground's seating will be redone with brand new aluminium seating, the control tower will be repaired, four sets of access steps will be replaced for the toilet block, with an underground power supply installed to an onsite water pump.

Boggabri community welcomes start date of Idemitsu's child care centre build

She's been one of many working for almost 10 years to get a childcare centre to Boggabri, and says the upcoming build is ' just fantastic'.

Catherine Collyer's patience and persistence have paid off, and says the flow-on effects of having the first child-care centre in town will benefit the not just families, but the wider community and region.

"I can't wait," she enthused.

We Went to the Daft Punk Album Premiere in Wee Waa, Australia, Pop. 2,100

WEE WAA, Australia–The world premiere of the latest Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories, was originally scheduled to take place on May 17 at a farm show in the rural Australian town of Wee Waa, population 2,100. The unconventional choice of locale made worldwide news, as intended. The event (and its marketing) was always about more than just two French guys releasing an album: It was an attempt to breathe life into the idea that a distinct collection of songs could still be relevant in 2013, when digitally downloaded singles dominate and launch dates have become almost meaningless.

WILL DAFT PUNK EVER TOUR AGAIN? HERE'S EVERYTHING WE KNOW ABOUT THEIR POSSIBLE RETURN

Will Daft Punk ever tour again? It's the question the world has been asking since the Alive shows in 2006 and 2007. Their live performances are the stuff of legend and the robots' return to festival stages and concert halls is one of the most hotly anticipated events in all of electronic music.

Daft Punk last performed "live" with The Weeknd at the 2017 GRAMMYs. They appeared on stage with the vocalist for a rendition of 'I Feel It Coming', one of the two tracks that the duo produced for The Weeknd's album 'Starboy'. Electronic music has a long history at the GRAMMYs but it wasn't enough to satisfy fans of Daft Punk.

DRESS DETECTIVE Miss Fisher’s Wardrobe - Kate Strasdin

Monday 13 July, 2020

The phenomenal success of Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries has a great deal to do with the aesthetic of the TV show – 1920s Melbourne and a glamourous protagonist! This lecture looks at the dress in the 1920s, the designers who were influencing the style and the developments that were changing the way people thought about clothes. It is also a look behind the scenes, creating Phryne Fisher’s world and the flapper style so synonymous with the decade. It was a period that began to embrace sportswear, leisurewear, shortened hems as well as outrageous parties. It also looks at menswear of the period and the changes that were beginning to take place within the masculine wardrobe.

PACKING UP THE NATION - Caroline Shenton

Monday 17 August, 2020

This is the gripping and sometimes hilarious story of how a band of heroic curators and eccentric custodians saved Britain’s national heritage during their Darkest Hour. As Hitler’s forces gathered on the other side of the Channel to threaten the UK, men and women from London’s national museums, galleries and archives forged extraordinary plans to evacuate their collections to safety. Utilising country houses from Buckinghamshire to Cumbria, tube tunnels, Welsh mines and Wiltshire quarries, a team of unlikely heroes packed up their greatest treasures in a race against time. It was the sweltering summer of 1939.

THE AMADEUS MYTH Mozart (1756-91) - Sandy Burnett

Monday 14 September

Classical music reached a peak of perfection in Vienna during the last three decades of the Eighteenth Century, an era in which every aristocratic household worth its salt had a Kapelle or band of musicians to keep every-one entertained. In particular, the refined musical discourse of the string quartet was held to be the highest form of musical art; the elegant interplay of its various string instruments likened by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe to “four intelligent people conversing”. In this talk, Sandy examines the perfect storm of circumstances that made this extraordinary era possible. He looks at selected excerpts of Classical elegance at its finest, and considers the remarkable figure of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a musician rightly prized – and mythologised – as one of the greatest ever known.

Killarney Bike Classic

27th September 2020

The Killarney Bike Classic started six years ago to raise funds for our local cancer groups and also as a way to remember a local farmer and grazier, Mark Lampe who rode from Killarney Gap to Sawn Rocks with a group of friends for an Easter get together with their families. Less than three months later, Mark lost his short battle with cancer. Mark grew up in Narrabri and loved the district. He would be so proud of the effort and support from so many people that will help make other families lives a little bit easier when they have to face the battle with cancer.

REPIN & THE WANDERERS - Kathy McLauchlan

Monday 19 October, 2020

At the start of the 19th century, Russia was still a newcomer to Europe's art scene. This lecture talks about the rise of a group of young painters known as the Wanderers who, from the 1860s onwards, forged a new and independent route for modern art. Their leading figure, Ilya Repin, evoked the realities of life through his paintings of people and landscapes. His major works would provoke admiration and controversy, establishing him as the most significant Russian painter of his time.
